Half Tuition Fee

The second group's presentation was about half tuition fee for Universities. So, what about half tuition fee? Today, students in Korea protests to ask for lowering the tuition half price beccause it is too expensive. Most of private Universities average tuition is over 7,000,000 won per semester. Actually our country's tuition fee is most expensive in the world except America. This means South Korea ranks second right after America. I knew that our country's tuituion fee is expensive but never know that it is this much. So, my opinion is tuirion fee should be lower than now at least but not in half.

The reasons why I agree with half tuition fee are firstly, parents and students' economical burden will decrease. Current average tuition fee for private Universities is about 7,000,000won as I mentioned before which students can't afford themselves with their studies at the same time. Some say that those economical problem is which they can't solve and also it's the individual problem that they havve to solve themselves. I think this is really selfish to say like this. Actually there are public Universities which tuition fee is much less than those private schools but only 18% of all Universities in Korea. This means most of the Universities are expensive. To afford huge amount of tuition fee, many students are depending on student loan. And also they work part-time job like convenience stores. In female student case, some students work for adult entertainment establishment. This is serious problems. Because of expensive tuition fee, many students in Korea having hard times like I mentioned in this journal.

Women-only subway

One of the presentation in this week was about Women-only train service. I didn't know that this issue is on going controversy these days. I get to know about this topic from this presentation so it was really good. Women-only car is a train service which is only women can get on. The purpose of introducing this system is for women's safety. But some people oppose to this because this shows sex discrimination. But I am positive with women-only subway system.

This system actually had existed before. It was began 1992 but it  fizzled out and disappeard. But they try to reintroduce this system for women's safety. Because sexual harassment is increasing especially in subway. I think intend of introducing this system is good idea relating to those conditions. For example, in my case I have seen lots of perverts in the subway when I was in high school especially during early in the morning and midnight. I felt insecure most of time when I was on the way of school. And actually, Japan prevents crime which is targeting women by enforcing women-only car system. So, if we introduce this system we can't get rid of such crime but at least we can reduce it. Decreasing rate of crime also important. So it is not useless thing to do.

This might cause some problems but it is to protect women which is really good. So, I think we should introduce women-only subway system. Many men might oppose to this but I hope they also understand women's situations and help to enforce this system.

Marijuana

One of the presentations in this week as about Marijuana.
The definition of Marijuana is "Cannabis, also known as marijuana, refers to any numbr of preparations of the Canabis plant intended fo use as a psychoactive drug or for medical purposes" from Wikipedia. This is composed of about 400 kinds of chmecals and most prominent chemical of those is THC. Many artists andfamous people have been taken marijuana previously and until now. And one of the hot issue these days is G-dragon because he smoked marijuana who is a singer. Even though a lot of famous people take this drug I disagree with taking marijuana is being legalized.

Now, I'm curious about what makes those famous artists to smoke marijuana?
Some say that it decreases stress in and makes people's feeling good. It affects mentally in positive way. And also this makes people to be creative because it makes people to see things differently from when they are not using it. It calls hallucinosis which it happens because of the chemical THC. Sometimes I need to be very creative since my major is related to art, but still I think marijuana is not good thing to do. Even though it makes people feel good but it is still drug that makes people to be dependent on it. This means it is addictive! If person who use marijuana,stops using it then the person shows light withdrawal symptoms. And also it affects on our memories and concentratons. People who abuse this drug consistently, are keep forgetting things and have difficulties in concentrating on their work. Moreover, it affects on our body too. For example, it makes people to have low blood pressure and researchers from Harvard University said that it might cause heart attack 5 times higher thn those who ae not taking marijuana. So, my opinion is I disagree with legalization of marijuana sinceit affects on our body negativly. Therefore we should not use it.

Animal Experiment

One of the presentations in this week was a 'Animal Experiment'. The Definition of

Animal experiment is known as "animal testing is the use of non-human animals in experiments"

from Widipedia. So, What is the controversy about this topic? Some people say that it is cruel

thing to do for animals even though it enacted with purposes for humans. I am kind of agree with

some parts that it's really cruel thing to do but I am positive with Animal Testing.

First, I think it is essential thing to develop our country and for human's lives.

For example, we can develop new medicines for curing people who have incurable

diseases in the future. And also, medical techniques that we have right now would not exist

 if we didn't have animal experiment. Second, if we institute new technology directly to human

without animal experiment would be very dangerous. Because we are not sure about

what kind of side effects going to be shown. And this might cause really huge problems.

It would be very nice if there is a replacement for animal testing, but there is no way

to replace anything with current technology instead of animal experiment.

Therefore, animal testing is the best plan in presence. In brief, this is to sacrifice small things

 to save a great thing. But this experiment is not only for humans but also for animals.

For example, to fix avian influenza and mad cow disease.

These are the reasons why I am consent to animal experiment. I think this testing should be done

to improve our future and therefore it is not useless thing to do but very meaningful.

Because it has right purposes for human in good way.

SSM

I have listened about presentation on SSM that second group have presented.
Then, What is SSM? It stands for Super Supermarket. So, those SSM runs by
large distributor and they are actually bigger than those general supermarket and
convenience store but smaller than thos hyper supermarket. There are examples of
SSM such as GS Supermarket, Homeplus Express, E-mart Everyday etc.
Then, what is the issue about this topic?

The problem is emergence of these SSM makes small supermarkets, owned by individual,
difficult to survive in the area of market competitions. This resulted as largely decrease
in those small supermarkets and this directly connected to increasing number of
unemployment. Because those owner have to close their shops. These are the reasons
why some people disagree with SSM. But there are also many good things about it.
So I am positive with SSM.

I think SSM is the combinations of all advantages of small supermarket, convenience
store and hyper supermarket. For examples, they are placed near at dwellings
so people could go and get things very easily. And also they have various kind of
products such as agro, livestock and marine which those small super markets and
convenience stores don't have. In addition, they sell products in low price and runs
for quite long time. That's why SSM is welcomed by many costomers. I know that
there are some disadvantages as i said before, but still SSM is comfortable for me
since i am in a costomer position.

G.M.O

In the class, first group had a presentation about G.M.O.
this is Genetically Modified Organisms. I didn't know about this before
but this presentation helped me to get information about this. I think this issue
is very controversy. It has bad things but also many good things too.
Based on the information that i have, I agree with G.M.O.

G.M.O is food that have genetically changed on purpose by people.
Some people might think that it is bad because this might be harmful for health.
This is just possibility but side effects of G.M.O has not certainly proved.
So, actually it is not directly affects to health. Therefore, i am positive with G.M.O.
There are some advantages of it. First, it doesn't have insects so they don't have
to use pesticieds which is harmful for health and environment. By not using
insect chemicals, we can protect the environment. Second, it is very strong at
unexpected change of weather. This reduces loss of farmer's properties and also
this makes agriculture to vitalize. And the last, G.M.O could grow at anywhere.
They are not limited from the given environment. So we can eat whenever
we want to. These are the reasons that I consent to this issue.

Design of Seoul

Today in the class, first group had presentation about Design of Seoul.
What is "Design of Seoul?" It is the plan which is to improve the environments
and designs of Seoul. If you ask me what do you think about it, then I would
say I'm positive.

I agree with the plan of "Design of Seoul". Because the purpose of doing this
is to make the city better and to create the brand of Seoul unique. Which is really
good. When I think of Seoul, I see only boring grey buildings. It looks really hard
and tensed. It doesn't have identity of its own. Then who do you think would be
come to our country for traveling for vacation. There are lots of another countries
that have beautiful sites and designs. So our city also have to make distinctive identities.
So improving the environments of Seoul is really needed to make the city beautiful.

Through "Design of Seoul", our city, the capital of our country Korea would become
very attractive site. So that lots of foreign tourists would come for travelling and naturally
economy would also rise. That's why Design of Seoul is needed to create our city's own
brand.
